Background of Delegat's Group.

Delegat's Group Limited is a leading producer of Super Premium branded New Zealand wines for export and domestic markets.

Established in 1947, Delegat's Group Limited is the proud producer and marketer of the internationally-acclaimed Delegat's and Oyster Bay wines.

The first part of Delegat's group is Delegat's wine.

Delegat's wine said It's not about reserving your best but making your best unreservedly.

Time is one of the most important ingredients in winemaking, starting with selecting the right time to pick the grapes. During harvest our winemakers and viticulturists work closely together to select the vineyards, blocks and rows to be picked.

They make these decisions based on ripeness and flavour development. They pick the fruit in the cool of the day, or night to preserve the natural vibrancy in the fruit.

Capturing the purity of flavour.

Our state of the art wineries are within the regions of our vineyards. A short travel time means winemaking can start only hours after the fruit is picked. Our wineries combine technology, science and tradition to enable us to craft, capture and complement the unique and pure flavours in the grapes.

Upon receival to the winery, our precision batch presses release the delicate 'free run' juice and gently press off the fruit.

For our white wines, temperature controlled cold settling is the most important step to prepare the juice for fermentation. Temperature controlled fermentation retains the freshness and youthful expression of the fruit. A hallmark of our white wines is lees stirring, which results in a richer texture and complexity to complement the fruit.

For our red winemaking we use specifically designed open top fermentation tanks for small batch winemaking. The open tops mean we can plunge the wine, which imparts colour, aroma and ripe fruit tannins.

The second part is Oyster Bay.

Oyster Bay story:

As a family company, still entirely New Zealand owned, our vision and passion is to become one of the world’s truly great Super-Premium winemakers. Proudly, our very first vintage won gold and the coveted Marquis de Goulaine Trophy for ‘Best Sauvignon Blanc of the Competition’ at the 22nd International Wine & Spirit Competition in London in 1991. Since this time Oyster Bay has continued to define the very stature and style of New Zealand wines. Oyster Bay takes its name from the local Oyster Bay in Marlborough, on the tip of New Zealand’s majestic South Island. Oyster Bay’s reputation has been built from vines grown in Marlborough’s Wairau Valley, now recognised as one of the great wine- 

growing regions of the world. By being among the first to recognise the wine-growing potential of Marlborough, we were able to secure the very best locations within one of the world’s greatest wine-producing regions to plant our vines. If Marlborough was the birthplace of Oyster Bay; then Hawke’s Bay, on the east coast of the North Island, is now our second home. No other region in New Zealand produces  Merlots with such intensity and elegance, and Oyster Bay’s vineyards are regarded as some of the region’s best. Our winemaking philosophy to produce elegant and assertive wines with glorious fruit flavours, can be traced through every single step of the winemaking process, from the painstaking way we choose our vines and vineyards to the exact moments we choose to plant, pick and process our grapes.  It all comes back to you. Without you, our wines would be a passion unfulfilled, for our passion at Oyster Bay is to share the unique attributes, quality and style of some of New Zealand’s most sought-after, Super-Premium wines with those as passionate as us.

The last part is Barossa Valley Estate (BVE).

About BVE

In 1984, the consumption of red wine was declining. Offering handsome subsidies, the federal government urged growers to pull out their ancient Shiraz vines and replace them with Chardonnay.

But there were 80 third and fourth generation Barossa Valley grape growers who refused.

Stubbornness became their strength. Instead of trying to sell the grapes to winemakers for little reward, they decided to take control of their own destiny by forming a cooperative and making their own wine. Barossa Valley Estate (BVE) was formed. 

Combining their skills and blending their grapes from across the Barossa Valley, they rode out the hard times and built for the future.

Located in the heart of the renowned Barossa Valley every BVE wine is made in the reflection of the world-famous E&E. Crafted from the 100% Barossa Valley fruit BVE wines are a true expression of the richness and character of this celebrated region.
